Multi Press Fountain Solution System

Multi Press Fountain Solution System

Multi – Press / Pressroom

Fountain Solution Management System

Complete Pressroom Management..

Don’t settle for yesterday’s technology when you can use tomorrow’s smart technology from Amerikal today.

It simply does not make sense to have a tank of 100 Gallons + of chilled water feeding your entire pressroom. Even with chilled circulating loops there is no control and the furthest press gets the warmest water.

Not only that but the long runs pick up all the heat in the pressroom so your chiller needs to work twice as hard to maintain temperature.

Introducing Amerikal’s Smart Pressroom Solution, our Multi-Press Fountain Solution Management System address all the negatives of a plant wide system, while providing accurately mixed fountain solution at the exact required temperature to all your machines. Only one machine? See Fountain Solution Management System

How do we do this….

Main Tank

First and foremost you need the correct fountain solution mixture, Amerikal incorporates our industry leading double additive proportioner to precisely control, fountain solution and additive mixing down to 1/10th of an ounce/gallon.

Accurate mixing saves $$$ by eliminating over consumption of fountain solution but more importantly weak mixes that will quickly generate excessive press waste.

Once you have the correctly mixed fountain solution it requires storing in a sufficient quantity to feed pressroom demand, so Amerikal utilizes a 100 gallon vessel for storage, but it doesn’t stop there. Unlike most pressroom fountain solution systems we do not keep a bath of chilled water hundreds of feet from the press & we do not return press contaminated water back into the tank. The Amerikal storage tank is continuously agitated via a spillback to avoid separation but more importantly feeds fresh fount to each press on demand preventing cross press contamination.

At the Press

The primary function of any press side fountain solution tank is to circulate and filter, unfortunately most manufacturers do not understand the importance of flow to control pan temperatures so have restricted feeds and many times venturi returns.
Amerikal used positive feeds and power drains to
increase the flow rate across the pan, reducing operator / gear temperature differences as well as the delta T (temp increase in the water), significantly reducing the energy required to maintain temperature.

Chilling

Amerikal’s Multi-Press Fountain Solution Management System does not chill the main tank, we chill where it is needed “the pan feed line” By chilling on the way to the water pans energy usage and temperature fluctuations are kept to an absolute minimum. Our press side chillers are self contained 120V Industrial Water Chillers and are an inexpensive plug in solution for our system or any tank that has a failed refrigeration unit.

No more Condensation or Dripping from your Water Trays

Silicone Tank

Water Pan Insulation..

Finally No more drips!
Nothing is more annoying than losing a web or having ink emulsify because of water pan condensation dripping onto the web or rollers. Water tray insulation is critical if you wish to have even temperatures across the width of the press. Flow rates capable of maintaining an even temperature while disbursing the cold fountain solution across the width of the water pan will also generate condensation if the trays are not adequately insulated.

Amerikal has developed a proprietary water pan insulation that stands up to the riggers of the press room environment. Our insulation combined with a flexible coating and edge sealant prepares pans for the onslaught of pressroom chemicals while performing better than any OEM insulation.

Water Pan Insulation ensures you can maintain fountain solution at a lower temperature over the entire width of the press with minimal delta T

Temperature Control Units (TCU’s)

Temperature Control Units (TCU’s)

Temperature Control Units (TCU’s)

Amerikal TCU’s..

It may not be immediately obvious, but temperature plays as large a part in a press performance as the chemistry.

Temperature variations from operator to gear require that the press operator try to balance the water across the width to compensate. Needless to say the operator side gets too much water in the process.

Aside from these obvious water balance issues, inconsistency in temperatures makes it impossible to fully utilize Cip3 presetting as Ink Tack & Body are also impacted rendering the presets useless.

In conclusion Varying Temperatures = Varying Results

Don’t fight your equipment! Ensure your ink and water settings are consistent. Our TCUs contain heating elements so even a cold press’s inker is up to operational temperature.

Fountain Solution Circulator – Temperature Control

Keeping the printing units at an even temperature is achieved by the Zone Control in combination with the Fountain Solution Circulator It is imperative that the temperature in the water trays is even from gear to operator.
Amerikal’s circulators achieve this by chilling the fountain solution on the way to the press and utilizing power drains to generate high flow rates.

Circulator Chiller Broken? – NO PROBLEM

Amerikal has developed two smart solutions for printers who have lost there chiller tank compressor.

Temperature Control is just as important as the the chemicals you use.

Fountain Solution Management System

Complete Management..

Don’t settle for yesterday’s technology when you can use tomorrow’s smart technology from Amerikal today.

It simply does not make sense to have a bath of chilled water sitting behind your machine, while your water trays have varying degrees of warm water in them.

Amerikal have addressed this issue in two ways, first and foremost we chill on the way to the press not in the tank, & secondly we significantly increase the flow rate across the pan, reducing the delta T (temp increase in the water).

Not only does this provide a far more even temperature across the width of the press, it also significantly reduces the energy required.

But we didn’t stop there..
While our fountain solution system does have a 30 gallon tank enabling an automatic press pump-down, it does not operate full. On the contrary, fountain solution is mixed just in time & is power returned through over 40 square feet of 20 micron filter ensuring the fountain solution in your water trays is as fresh and clean as possible for optimum performance.

Match this with our chemical proportioner system capable of 0.1 oz / gallon portion accuracy & you have a complete fountain solution management system capable of consistently & repeatedly supplying your machine with the right amount of fountain solution at the set temperature 24/7/365.

Due to customer requests Amerikal now offers a smart multiple press solution. Feed multiple presses with cool filtered fountain solution “WITHOUT” potential cross contamination or temperature control issues. Contact Us for more information.

Update your Remote Inking System with a Divided Ductor & Auto Fountain Cleaner

IMer Remote Ink Control System

IMer Remote Ink Control System

When we were researching Ink Control Systems capable of delivering the exact pre-calculated volume of ink to the plate, we found only one…

I.Mer Remote Ink Control System
The I.P.C – Divided Ductor Roller

De-Skill Ink Presets with a Remote Ink Control System from I.Mer

Unlike other Remote Ink Control Systems, I.Mer’s Divided Ductor Roller was developed for the VERY demanding two piece can industry. Not only did it survive this harsh environment, it thrived being retrofited to over 85 can decorators.

I.Mer Cip 3

The main benefit of a divided ductor over conventional Remote Ink “Key” Control Systems, is the ability to transfer the exact amount of ink required in any zone without compromising other areas of the plate.

With a Divided Ductor it is possible to print solids & spot color side by side. No more spiral ductors for light coverage, or wrenches for heavy.

The operation of the Divided Ductor removes the variables associated with existing remote ink control systems.

Ink “key” system variables such as, operator sweep control, key wear, key calibration, sticking keys & hydraulic lift are all eliminated.

How It Works

The Divided Ductor System utilizes a fixed blade to establish a uniform ink film thickness on the fountain roller.

As the sweep is a fixed percentage of press speed, any hydraulic lift of the fountain roller, or film thickness variation, is repeatable & can easily be accommodated using offset parameters.

Now that a consistent ink film thickness has been established, extremely precise ink feed can be accomplished by automatically varying the dwell time of the divided ductor roller segments against the fountain roller.

If you look closely at the fountain roller you can see the ink profile reflected in the ink film.

What You Are Watching..

  • To the left you can see the ink fountain has a small sausage of ink maintained by the ACC system.
  • The fountain is lined with a thin film and enclosed with magnetic end cheeks. (See Auto Fountain Cleaner)
  • The fountain roller is carrying a uniform ink film thickness across the entire width.
  • The un-energized Divided Ductor segments maintain contact with the ink train.
  • When energised the segments contact the fountain roller.
  • The time, individual ductor segments contact the fountain roller, is dependent upon the image profile, predetermined by the Area Reader.
  • Contact will be longer for areas of heavy coverage.
  • In areas of no coverage the segments do not move.
  • While in very light coverage the segments energize intermittently.

Additional Video – Heidelberg with I.Mer Remote Ink Control

Designed using the KISS philosophy the Divided Ductor system eliminates many of the variables associated with ink key systems.
Pneumatically energized with spring return there are only 4 moving parts/section. The Divided Ductor system is a perfect example of less equals more.

I.Mer have successfully de-skilled not only the operation of ink setting but also the functionality of the system itself!
